Chris Kuenzer: Volunteer Day

Last week was very busy. Michael came out to visit us on Wednesday and Thursday, and he will be here for a few more days this week as well. We gave him a tour of Building 70, and I showed him how we do Dailys and SOP cards. It has been nice to have an extra person at our site, and I’m sure it will be even more helpful when we start to take measurements for the as-built drawings later today. On Thursday, I helped our Project Manager by figuring out how much of the ductwork and VAV boxes have been put up. He used the estimate to try to predict when they will be finished, and to refine our schedule.

At building 70, our carpenters are almost done hanging board on the exterior walls and soffits, and the iron workers have started to work on the steel for our bathroom partition supports. Progressive is still working on raising the fire mains, and they have made a lot of progress. Ensroth is more than half way done with the ductwork, and RL Bondy is working close behind them with the duct insulation.

We had our volunteer day on Friday at the gardens in Detroit. I spent the first half of the day transplanting sunflowers with Michael, and the second half of the day setting pavers down for a walkway with Dylan and Riley. Ideal treated us and the other volunteers to a taco lunch with ice cream for dessert, which was very much appreciated on such a hot day.
